The Viharas
Using the guiding principles of Zen garden design, the siting strategy for this property utilized the property’s pool as a focal point around which one’s attention is always directed. The non-directionality of the circular form allows the home to feel more expansive and open to the mountains and ocean beyond. The multiple, undulating planes of the roof play off of the topography of the mountains in the distance and give a nod to the forms of traditional Japanese architecture. The palette of soft wood tones, warm bronzes, and textured stones is in harmony with the natural environment of this oceanside home.
